Mandatory Academic Placement

Important Information

To provide the best opportunity for our students to be successful in their math and English courses, Northeast follows a mandatory placement policy. Mandatory placement requires students who score below minimum levels in reading, writing and/or math to take foundational coursework prior to enrollment into certain courses in order to develop their academic skills.

Prior to enrollment, students are required to submit a current set of placement test scores. Northeast accepts ACT, SAT, MAP and Accuplacer. Northeast administers the MAP test. These scores will be used during advisement to enroll students in the appropriate level of math and English.

More specific information about math and English placement can be found below:

Please note:

  • English and math requirements are unique to each program of study.
  • Students may take the MAP test if they wish to challenge their placement. Students may test twice in a semester. For more information about the MAP test: MAP/Testing Center
  • Advising is mandatory for all degree-seeking students who have earned less than 28 credit hours or not in good standing. To ensure proper course placement and selection, meet with an Advisor prior to registration.
