NORFOLK – Northeast Community College business and technology students had the opportunity recently to rub elbows with local business professionals and potential future employers. Brooks Rash, north regional maintenance manager for Arrow Stages Lines, visits with Dustin Rodekohr, of Norfolk, a first-year diesel technology student at Northeast Community College. Rash was one of several employers who spoke with diesel technology students during the program’s inaugural Career Fair, held recently in the Diesel Technology building on the College’s Norfolk campus.

NORFOLK – The Ford dealership in Norfolk has donated a vehicle to Northeast Community College for student learning purposes. Courtesy Ford-Lincoln has donated the 2009 program car to be used in two College programs.

OMAHA – Two students in the Northeast Community College truck driving program took top honors at the Nebraska Student Truck Driving Championship recently in Omaha. Juan Pizano, Sioux City, IA, took the first place overall prize, while Shawn Anderson, Wisner, placed second. Jeffrey Kappus of Metropolitan Community College (MCC) was third.

NORFOLK – Dr. Michael Chipps, president of Northeast Community College, has a filmed a video geared to military veteran students who attend the college. “I’m here to really celebrate with you veterans, as far as not only for your service, but to be able to attend Northeast Community College,” Chipps said in the opening. The video was shot by students in Brian Anderson’s broadcasting program in front of the College’s Welcome Center.

NORFOLK - Agriculture cooperatives hoping to get a jump on summer intern hiring set up booths Thursday in Northeast Community College’s Lifelong Learning Center for an Ag Career Fair. They spoke with interested Northeast students who ordinarily might not start to look for internships until spring. Dr. Burton Pflueger, Northeast agriculture instructor, who planned the event, said introducing students to potential employers this early in the year benefits everyone.

NORFOLK – Five members of the Northeast Community College auto body program and their instructor traveled to the United Kingdom - the second group from the College to travel there in the past year. Instructor Dave Beaudette and his students flew from Omaha to Manchester, England, in late October for a ten visit to nearby North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe, England.

NORFOLK – A one million dollar investment in the renovation of the Kenneth J. Echtenkamp building on the Norfolk campus of Northeast Community College isn’t the only new addition to the program that is housed there. The College’s information technology (IT) program has been redesigned with more concentrations and a unique “build your own” degree.
“This is such an exciting time for all of us. Along with the renovated building, classroom configuration, and new equipment, the most important aspect is the students,” said Gigi Simonsen, information technology instructor. “We feel with the dedicated staff, new learning environment and high-quality instruction, our students will be more competitive in today’s job market.”
