Completed Projects
- College Technology Center (CTC)
- Central location for technology equipment and online education technology staff dedicated to the pursuit of Title III grant objectives and fulfilling the vision for technology integration and training at Northeast.
- Almost $150,000 of equipment and computer software for working in the CTC at any of the two Collaboration Stations or four Solo Stations or for equipment checkout by members of Northeast’s faculty or staff.
- Northeast employees or students seeking assistance have utilized the CTC computers or staff members for training or support in the first two years of the grant.
- Instructors (Yr. 1 = 22 & Yr. 2 – 16) & staff members (Yr. 1 = 17 & Yr. 2 = 17) have checked out CTC technology tools
- Laptop computers, video cameras, wireless microphones, webcams and headsets are the most popular checkout items.
- Faculty training in Sakai Learning Management System (LMS)
- 11 formal trainings were offered with 90 instructors, 6 administrators and have completed training
- Library Resources
- Over 120 ebooks purchased for distance availability and more will be added annually.
- Films on Demand (FOD) streaming video platform allowing instructors and students the ability to incorporate outstanding educational programs from Films Media Group into online courses and for research purposes via access to large curriculum-focused collections on a subscription basis. *2010 statistics began in September with the FOD trial.
- Identified 17 entirely online degree programs plus one certificate and one diploma program.
- Developed 27 new online courses to support online programs.
- As of Fall 2011, ten degree programs are available entirely online.
- Established a criteria and compensation plan for Title III Online Professional Tutors.
- Developed and refined Online Professional Tutor recruitment and hiring process.
- Revised the position description and hired a full-time combined Tutoring/Title III Specialist position in cooperation with Northeast’s Academic Support Center.
- Comparison between Learning Management System (LMS) options compared and Sakai selected.
- All online courses have migrated from Angel to Sakai.
- Online instruction in Sakai was piloted during the summer of 2011 but all online courses were debuted in Sakai for fall 2011.
- Title III-Funded Travel Request application and funding formula.
- Hired an Online Student Support Specialist 70% time.
- Developed and implemented new Student Support Services online student survey for terms 10S, 10A&B and 10F.
- Expanded membership of Title III Advisory Council to include three additional faculty members and five Collaborative Consultants.
- New Northeast web site. (This was not specifically a Title III project but was mentioned in the grant application as an important related activity.)
- Created the position description for and hired an Assistant Instructional Designer.

- Year 2: 52 different individuals participated for a total of 95 attendances in 14 Title III-funded webinars which focused upon the following topics:

- Survey Monkey Survey Tool
- From Spring 2010-Summer B 2011 this tool was utilized at the end of each term to assess students’ opinion of distance student support services.
- During Spring 2011 a Survey Monkey version of the student evaluation of online course instruction will be available in most online courses in order to establish a Title III baseline for comparison and to inform course redevelopment.
- During Spring 2012, instructs were surveyed to identify a technology instruction baseline and future training needs.
- Recruit and retain online degree seeking students
- 28 students have declared eligible online degree programs and matriculated during the first two grant years.
- Of the original 13 online degree seekers, five persisted into their second year.
- Of the 12 online degree seekers beginning in fall 2011, 6 successfully completed online courses and three withdrew.
Active Projects
- ITV Expansion - $145,000 project.
- New ITV classrooms in West Point and O’Neill.
- ITV classroom upgrades in West Point, South Sioux City and Norfolk.
- College Center in South Sioux City upgraded March 2011.
- West Point and MC121 in Norfolk scheduled for May 2011.
- Technology Purchases to supplement ITV instruction.
- $13,550 of iPads and charging/synching cart purchased to infuse technology into ITV courses consistent with technology available in on-campus courses.
- $6,400 of Dell Duos purchased for accounting ITV courses to provide students at Distant Ed Centers with technology consistent with that available in on-campus courses.
- Online course external review process.
- Course reviews are underway and scheduled for completion in December 2012.
- KnowledgeBase/FAQ tool selected and data gathered.
