Advisement and Counseling

Our Testing Center provides current students, future students and surrounding community members with a variety of services in testing and assessment that are required for admission, placement, certification and licensure.

Northeast Community College Testing Center Mission:

The primary mission of Northeast Community College Testing is to assess the student’s abilities so the student has the opportunity to achieve academic success, personal growth, or career development.

Northeast Community College Testing Center supports the college’s mission statement by providing a high quality, secure, confidential, and friendly testing environment to meet the needs of students and the region it serves. Our focus is to provide meaningful services to our customers while promoting the academic, career, and personal goals of the individuals we serve.

Location

We are located on the Norfolk Campus in the College Welcome Center. You can enter Door #3 labeled Testing and Disability Services and proceed to Room 1252 or 1256.

We offer the following tests:

The Testing Center strives to provide secure, accurate testing and assessment services in an efficient and consistent manner. To fulfill this goal, we ask the following:

DSST Tests: The student requesting DSST test must contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment prior to testing. The test fee is paid to DSST by credit or debit card on the day of the test. (The student must bring a credit/debit card on the day of the test.) The student must have current government- issued identification with photo and signature. The student must pay a non-refundable administration fee of $20.00 to Northeast.

CLEP Tests: The student requesting a CLEP test must contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment prior to testing. The CLEP $80.00 test fee is paid directly to CLEP through its official website before the day of the test. The student must create a user profile and pre-pay the $80.00 by credit or debit card for the exam. After the student’s account is completed, the student will print a non-refundable testing voucher which is valid for 6 months. The student must bring the printed CLEP Voucher Ticket to the Testing Center to test. The student must have current government-issued identification with photo and signature. Also, the student will pay a non-refundable administration fee of $20.00 to Northeast.

COMPASS/ESL Tests: Students requesting a COMPASS/ESL test should contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment prior to testing. All test-takers must have a valid government-issued or current school issued ID.

COMPASS ESL: If English is not the students’ primary language, call the Testing Center to schedule a COMPASS ESL appointment before testing.

Remote COMPASS: Students seeking to enroll at Northeast, but cannot test at Northeast's main or extended campuses may take Northeast’s COMPASS assessment at another location.  Please contact the Northeast Testing Center to arrange a Remote COMPASS test at the preferred site.  After Northeast has registered the student for the COMPASS assessment, contact the chosen location to schedule a testing appointment.

COMPASS testing for another institution at Northeast Community College: Student seeking to take the COMPASS assessment at Northeast Community College’s Testing Center needs to contact the other institution to register for a remote COMPASS test.  Once the student’s registration is complete with the other institution, the student needs to schedule a testing appointment with Northeast.
 

Distance Learning: Students requesting a distance learning test must contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment prior to testing. Prior to scheduling a testing appointment at Northeast, the student must contact the institution responsible for the exam and request and gain approval for Northeast Testing Center to monitor the course test, and the testing specifics.

Make-up Tests: Students requesting a make-up test must have their instructor’s permission and must contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment.

Pearson VUE Tests: Students requesting a Pearson VUE exam must register with Pearson VUE at www.pearsonvue.com .

Pearson VUE GED: Students requesting a Pearson VUE exam must register online at www, gedtestingservice.com or can call 1-877-EXAM GED (1-877-392-6433).

TEAS V Assessment: Students requesting a TEAS V  test must contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment prior to testing. The $45.00 testing fee is paid to ATI testing by credit or debit card on the day of the test. (You must bring a credit/debit card on the day of the test.) You must have current government issued identification with photo and signature. 

Critical Thinking Assessment: Students requesting a Critical Thinking test must contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment prior to testing. The $26.00 testing fee is paid to ATI testing by credit or debit card on the day of the test. (You must bring a credit/debit card on the day of the test.) You must have current government issued identification with photo and signature. 

ACT: Students requesting an ACT exam must register online at www.actstudent.org.

ASSET: Students requesting the ASSET must contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment and must have Disability Services’ recommendation.

ASE: The testing candidate requesting an ASE test must call the Testing Center to schedule an appointment prior to testing. The ASE test fee is paid directly to ASE through its official website, https://www.ase.com. The testing candidate must provide the following to the Testing Center when scheduling an appointment: ASE Eligibility Number, Primary Phone Number, Alternate Phone Number, Email Address, and Test(s) to be Taken.

Accommodation testing: Students requesting a test with accommodations must contact the Testing Center at least two day prior to the scheduled classroom test to schedule an appointment. Students must make arrangements with the instructor to test in the Testing Center. Prior to testing with accommodations students must be registered with Disability Services, and a Letter of Accommodations must be on file in the Testing Center. 

Certiport: Students requesting a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification Exam must contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment.

Testing Center Guideliness

  • Student must make an appointment.(Space is limited.)
  • Student must present a current photo ID.
    • Please refer to specific exam for more detailed information.
  • Student must complete a sign-in sheet.
  • Food, gum and drink are not permitted in the Testing Center and/or testing rooms unless otherwise permitted.
  • All personal items will be stored in the lockers outside of the Testing Center. (Purses, wallets, keys, watches, jewelry more than1/4 inch, hats, caps, coats, backpacks or notes unless otherwise permitted will be stored.)
  • All cell phones, pagers, portable stereos, radios, MP3 players, headphones and all other electronic devices will be turned off and stored in a locker outside the Testing Center.
  • Student may not access his/her personal belongings without permission once testing has begun.
  • If a break is permitted during testing, the student may not access his/her cell phone or any other electronic devices.
  • The Testing Center will supply all scrap paper; used and unused scrap paper must be turned in at the completion of the test.
  • Student may not leave the Testing Center without permission once testing has begun.
  • No children or visitors are allowed in the Testing Center.

Testing Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Testing fees must be paid prior to testing. Students will pay the testing fees at the Northeast Community College Business Office, unless otherwise noted. Cost and fees are subject to change without notice.

Mandatory Placement

We are committed to our mission of educating students to meet the requirements of today's workforce. In line with this mission, we have a Mandatory Placement policy that requires students who score below minimum levels in reading, writing and/or math to take transitional coursework prior to enrollment into certain courses in order to develop their academic skills.

The testing semester begins the day after the semester final grades are due in the Registrar's Office and ends the day the instructors' final grades are due in the Registrar's Office. Students may test or re-test twice a testing semester.
