NASHVILLE, TN – Several members of Northeast Community College’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Chapter earned honors recently at the organization’s National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN. Overall, Nebraska PBL produced 52 Top Ten finishes, the most ever. The finish also placed the Nebraskans in second place among all of the states attending.

NORFOLK – A member of the faculty at Northeast Community College has received national recognition. Tere Karella has been awarded Recognition of Advanced Proficiency for the Physical Therapist Assistant by the American Physical Therapy Association. The recognition was bestowed on Karella at the association’s annual conference earlier this month in Charlotte, NC.

SILVER SPRING, MD – A Northeast Community College graduate has earned a regional Emmy Award for his work with The United States (U.S.) Air Force Band. Master Sgt. Loren J. Zimmer is an audio engineer with The U.S. Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Eagle, NE, he began his Air Force career in 1998. Sergeant Zimmer attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk, where he earned his associate degree in audio recording technology in the same year.

NORFOLK – A member of the Northeast Community College faculty has been recognized for his work in educating school children about the importance of a natural resource that no one can live without – water.
Michael Lechner, agriculture instructor, was recognized recently at the 20th annual Aquafest at Wayne State College. Aquafest is an event Lechner founded in 1994 when he worked for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Extension Service.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College has recognized several student groups who achieved success over the past academic year.
At a recent meeting of the Northeast Board of Governors, agriculture; broadcasting, journalism and mass media; business, forensics, music, utility line, and al-state academic students were acknowledge by the board, administration, faculty and staff for student achievement and success in a number of areas.

NORFOLK – Two members of the Northeast Players, the student theatre group at Northeast Community College, have been recognized for their work on stage and behind the scenes. Dakota Vlotho, of Rock Valley, IA, and Lauren Oestreich, of Stanton, have been named Norfolk Lions Club Outstanding Theatre Award winners for 2013-14.

NORFOLK - Northeast Community College broadcasting, journalism and mass media students were honored for their work at the annual Nebraska Collegiate Media Association (NCMA) Conference, Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Hastings College in Hastings. NCMA sponsors the Golden Leaf Awards every spring for excellence in print, digital, radio and TV media. Northeast students took top honors in several categories including Best TV Newscast for the Hawk-TV staff and Best Promotional Content, won by the staff of the Northeast college online newspaper, The Viewpoint.

MARYVILLE, MO – Northeast Community College students finished in fourth place in sweepstakes for two-year colleges at the 2014 North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Judging Conference held at Northwest Missouri State University here. Northeast was one of 20 community colleges and 19 university teams to compete in the April 10-12 conference.

NORFOLK – Jabbar Washington's prowess on the basketball court is well known in Region XI of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. But the sport isn't the only focus of the point guard on the Northeast Community College men’s basketball team. “Coming here (Northeast) was the best decision I ever made,” Washington said. “Being a student and an athlete is not easy, but my coaches have helped me develop into the young man that I am today. I came here as a boy, but I will leave here as a young man.”

NORFOLK – Hundreds of students at Northeast Community College have seen the generosity of others. The scholarship recipients and their sponsors were honored during the annual Scholarship Luncheon, which recognizes the sponsors for helping Northeast students succeed with their education.

NORFOLK – Two Norfolk men with longtime ties to Northeast Community College have been recognized for their civic contributions. Dr. Robert Cox, former president, and J. Paul McIntosh, former member of the Board of Governors, were recognized at this week’s annual banquet of the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce. Both men currently serve on the Northeast Community College Foundation Board.
