  • Golden Leaf Awards Presented to Northeast Students

    by jamesc  4/17/2014 5:25:31 PM --  NORFOLK - Northeast Community College broadcasting, journalism and mass media students were honored for their work at the annual Nebraska Collegiate Media Association (NCMA) Conference, Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Hastings College in Hastings. NCMA sponsors the Golden Leaf Awards every spring for excellence in print, digital, radio and TV media. Northeast students took top honors in several categories including Best TV Newscast for the Hawk-TV staff and Best Promotional Content, won by the staff of the Northeast college online newspaper, The Viewpoint.

  • Northeast Livestock Judging Team Earns Honors

    by jamesc  4/17/2014 5:23:21 PM --  MARYVILLE, MO – Northeast Community College students finished in fourth place in sweepstakes for two-year colleges at the 2014 North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Judging Conference held at Northwest Missouri State University here. Northeast was one of 20 community colleges and 19 university teams to compete in the April 10-12 conference.

Northeast Community College, South Sioux City Community Schools and the Northeast Community College Multicultural Club will sponsor a World of Fun carnival on Saturday, April 26, from 1-4 p.m. in the parking lot of the College Center, 1001 College Way, in South Sioux City.

  • Popular Baby Boomers & Beyond Returns to Northeast in South Sioux City

The popular Baby Boomers and Beyond series, sponsored by Northeast and Thrivent Great Plains Associates will be held Thursday, May 15, from 9:30-3 p.m. at the College Center, 1001 College Way.

  • Uhlir Signs to Play Volleyball at Northeast

  • Hawk Golf Teams Finishes 5th at Iowa Tournament

    by jamesc  4/14/2014 7:37:43 AM --  PANORA, IA – Northeast Community College’s Conner Watson ‘s even par 72 was the lowest score of the second and final day of the AIB Spring Invitational at Lake Panorama Golf Course in Panora, IA, Saturday. He was one of three players to tie for fifth with a two-day total of 153.

  • Northeast Student-Athletes Recognized for Academic Success

But the sport isn't the only focus of the point guard on the Northeast Community College men’s basketball team. “Coming here (Northeast) was the best decision I ever made,” Washington said. “Being a student and an athlete is not easy, but my coaches have helped me develop into the young man that I am today. I came here as a boy, but I will leave here as a young man.”

  • Northeast Scholarship Recipients, Sponsors Are Recognized

The scholarship recipients and their sponsors were honored during the annual Scholarship Luncheon, which recognizes the sponsors for helping Northeast students succeed with their education.

  • Northeast Signs Women's Basketball Recruit from South Dakota

    by jamesc  4/11/2014 11:20:11 AM --  NORFOLK – Northeast Community College has signed a women’s basketball recruit out of South Dakota. Sydney Koel is a 6’2” forward/post from Sioux Falls. Hawks Coach Matt Svehla said Koel is a great player for the Northeast program. “Sydney is a mobile post player who can run the floor, post up, and also shoot the occasional three. Having a post with that kind of size and versatility is such a luxury.”

  • Lincoln Woman is Final Visiting Writer of Spring Semester at Northeast

    by jamesc  4/4/2014 10:12:11 AM --  NORFOLK – A faculty mentor with the University of Nebraska will be the final visiting writer for the spring semester at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. Karen Gettert Shoemaker will read her works on Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in Hawks Landing in the Student Center on Northeast’s campus. Her appearance is free and open to the public.

  • Northeast Spring Concert is April 13

The annual Spring Concert will be held on Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Northeast campus in Norfolk.

  • Three Northeast Instructors Teach in Denmark

    by jamesc  3/28/2014 11:01:32 AM --  AARHUS, DENMARK – In the Fall of 2013, three instructors from a college in Denmark spent two-weeks in Nebraska to, as one of them put it; “Get a taste of the real America!” Now three Nebraska college instructors are having the same opportunity to showcase their expertise in the Scandinavian country. Brian Anderson, Cara Hoehne, and Kate Trindle are presently teaching at Aarhus Business College in Aarhus, Denmark. The three are on a two-week faculty exchange with Danish institution. It is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by administrators at both colleges.

  • Results from 32nd Northeast Jazz Festival

    by jamesc  3/28/2014 10:46:26 AM --  NORFOLK – Over 1,750 students from high schools in four states took part in the 32nd Annual Northeast Community College Jazz Festival this week on the Northeast campus in Norfolk.Junior high and high school musicians in 90 groups from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and South Dakota participated in four levels of competition.
