  • Northeast Student-Athletes Recognized for Academic Success

    by jamesc  4/11/2014 11:34:23 AM --  NORFOLK – Jabbar Washington's prowess on the basketball court is well known in Region XI of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. But the sport isn't the only focus of the point guard on the Northeast Community College men’s basketball team. “Coming here (Northeast) was the best decision I ever made,” Washington said. “Being a student and an athlete is not easy, but my coaches have helped me develop into the young man that I am today. I came here as a boy, but I will leave here as a young man.”

  • Northeast Foundation Board Members Have Ties to Siouxland

    by jamesc  4/4/2014 10:44:08 AM --  NORFOLK – As part of the upcoming National Volunteer Week (April 6-12), the Northeast Community College Foundation is paying tribute to its board of directors, which consists of community members in the College’s 20 county service area. Members represent varied backgrounds, bringing strength and diversification to the Foundation. Three of the members have strong ties to the South Sioux City area where Northeast has a presence in the College Center. Douglas Garwood, Antonio (Tony) Gomez, and Arlan Kuehn, are all well-known and have strong ties to Dakota County.

  • Northeast Community College to Construct New Residence Hall

At a meeting of the College Board of Governors Thursday, it was announced that Northeast will construct a new residence hall near two existing residence halls and two student apartments.

  • Northeast Community College Adds Value to the Region

    by jamesc  2/28/2014 10:17:38 AM --  NORFOLK – New data confirms that Northeast Community College has a major economic impact on the 20 counties in its service area. A study by Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI) for the College shows that Northeast Community College adds $232.5 million annually to its 20-county service area’s economy. The study took into account $200 million in student productivity, plus the combined effects of spending each year by the College which totals $31.9 million, and by students who relocate to Northeast’s service area which has a $561,400 impact. The total effect for Fiscal Year 2012-13 amounted to approximately 3.8% of the Northeast service area’s total Gross Regional Product.

  • Northeast Names IT Building After Echtenkamp

    by jamesc  2/18/2014 4:47:16 PM --  NORFOLK – Ken Echtenkamp’s name is synonymous with education in Northeast Nebraska. In addition to being a teacher, an administrator, and superintendent of two school districts, the West Point man served as business manager of one of the predecessor institutions to Northeast Community College and was a longtime member of the College’s board of governors. On Tuesday, Northeast named its new information technology (IT) building after Echtenkamp, whose tenure with the College spanned over 35-years. The Northeast Board of Governors approved the $1.1 renovation of the former Broadcasting/Electronics building into its new IT showcase facility in 2012.

  • Northeast Community College Welcomes Tejas Tublar

    by jamesc  1/31/2014 11:20:39 AM --  LINCOLN – The president and a member of the board of governors of Northeast Community College are welcoming the announcement that a Texas company will be investing millions of dollars to bring a new major manufacturing plant to Norfolk. “We are pleased that Tejas Tubular will be investing both human and financial capital in our 20 county service area, said Dr. Michael Chipps, president of Northeast. “ Our college will be here to assist Tejas in any way possible to more than just meet their educational and workforce training needs.”

  • Davies is New Chair of the Northeast Board of Governors

Davies, Pilger, is the new chairperson of the Northeast Community College Board of Governors.He began serving his term at Thursday’s meeting of the board in Norfolk. Davies, the At-Large member, succeeds District II Representative Keith Harvey, Creighton.

  • South Sioux City Man Among Newest Members on Northeast Board

    by jamesc  12/13/2013 9:41:06 AM --  SOUTH SIOUX CITY – A Northeast Nebraska auto dealer and an advocate for education is one of the newest members of the Northeast Community College Board of Governors. Arlan Kuehn of South Sioux City succeeded long-time board member Van Phillips of South Sioux City. Phillips stepped down earlier this year after an unsuccessful run for a seat in the Nebraska Legislature.

  • Three Inducted into Northeast Community College's Hall of Success

Sara Dederman Brayshaw, Norhglenn, CO, Randy Hagedorn, Norfolk, and Bryan Rentschler, Atkinson, were inducted into Northeast's Hall of Success during a luncheon ceremony Thursday at the Lifelong Learning Center. The Hall of Success is awarded to individuals for achieving significant professional success, exhibiting exemplary citizenship qualities, or making significant contributions to their communities and/or community affairs.

  • Northeast Looks at New Student Housing Options

Over 350 students currently live on-campus in the College’s residence halls and apartments, but each year, hundreds of students who would like to live on-campus, put their names on a waiting list, just hoping for a vacancy.

  • Students Take Their Career Path Through Northeast in So. Sioux City

  • Northeast Hosts Higher Learning Commission Evaluation Team

    by jamesc  10/24/2013 11:15:26 AM --  NORFOLK – Northeast Community College underwent a comprehensive evaluation visit this week by a team representing the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association. Team leader, Dr. John Marr, dean of academic affairs at Cuyahoga Community College in Highland Hills, OH, was appreciative of Northeast’s preparation for the visit. “This is the best coordinated visit I have ever been on,” Marr said during an exit interview with college employees.

  • Ground is Broken for Northeast's Future Applied Technology Building

    by jamesc  10/18/2013 3:52:38 PM --  NORFOLK – Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman said the state’s community colleges serve as a link between businesses and higher education to create programs which result in a highly-skilled workforce. “Nebraska’s community colleges are a link to the future for our communities and the state.” Heineman made his remarks at a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday at the site of Northeast Community College’s Applied Technology building.

  • Northeast Community BOG Approves 2013-14 Budget
