  • Northeast Expands Offerings in its IT Program

    by jamesc  7/25/2014 10:47:59 AM --  NORFOLK – A one million dollar investment in the renovation of the Kenneth J. Echtenkamp building on the Norfolk campus of Northeast Community College isn’t the only new addition to the program that is housed there. The College’s information technology (IT) program has been redesigned with more concentrations and a unique “build your own” degree. “This is such an exciting time for all of us. Along with the renovated building, classroom configuration, and new equipment, the most important aspect is the students,” said Gigi Simonsen, information technology instructor. “We feel with the dedicated staff, new learning environment and high-quality instruction, our students will be more competitive in today’s job market.”

  • The Safest Place in Siouxland

    by jamesc  7/25/2014 10:42:55 AM --  A bicycle safety clinic, sponsored by the South Sioux City Optimist Club, was among the many activities during a Public Safety Day recently at Northeast Community College’s extended campus in South Sioux City. Approximately 200 people also had the opportunity to view equipment and visit with representatives from a number of Siouxland area agencies during the event.

  • Northeast PBL Students Earn National Honors

    by jamesc  7/11/2014 9:31:25 AM --  NASHVILLE, TN – Several members of Northeast Community College’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Chapter earned honors recently at the organization’s National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN. Overall, Nebraska PBL produced 52 Top Ten finishes, the most ever. The finish also placed the Nebraskans in second place among all of the states attending.

  • Northeast To Add Several New Health and Wellness Programs

The new programs include an expansion in the health and wellness transfer concentrations of athletic training – associate of science degree (AS); exercise science (AS); pre-dietetics (AS); and physical education teacher – associate of arts degree.

  • Karella is Recognized by APTA

Tere Karella has been awarded Recognition of Advanced Proficiency for the Physical Therapist Assistant by the American Physical Therapy Association. The recognition was bestowed on Karella at the association’s annual conference earlier this month in Charlotte, NC.

  • Northeast Instructors Receive Warm Velkommen in Scandinavian Country

    by jamesc  6/26/2014 10:26:44 AM --  NORFOLK – Since Northeast Community College instituted global educational opportunities as one of its eight institutional priorities, several students, faculty and staff have had experiences of not only learning and understanding other cultures, they have grown personally as well. Three Northeast instructors are the latest to experience a real world culture first-hand by traveling to a distant land. Brian Anderson, broadcasting instructor, Cara Hoehne, business instructor, and Kate Trindle, history/geography instructor, traveled to Denmark this spring to teach at Aarhus Business College in Aarhus, Denmark. “The trip to Aarhus was an amazing experience, both culturally and educationally,” Anderson said. “Our hosts provided us with a great mix of both that helped us bring those experiences back to our students and classrooms.”

  • Northeast Instructors Provide American Perspective to Danes

Three instructors from Northeast Community College visited Aarhus Business College (Århus Købmandsskole) this spring, where they stepped up to the whiteboard to teach primarily at the departments of vocational education.

  • Northeast Graduate Earns Emmy Award

    by jamesc  6/17/2014 11:45:15 AM --  SILVER SPRING, MD – A Northeast Community College graduate has earned a regional Emmy Award for his work with The United States (U.S.) Air Force Band. Master Sgt. Loren J. Zimmer is an audio engineer with The U.S. Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Eagle, NE, he began his Air Force career in 1998. Sergeant Zimmer attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk, where he earned his associate degree in audio recording technology in the same year.

  • Northeast Celebrates Success of O'Neill Extended Campus Campaign

    by jamesc  6/10/2014 9:07:52 PM --  O’NEILL – Northeast Community College board members, administration, local dignitaries and others on Tuesday celebrated reaching the goal of a capital campaign to construct a new extended campus here that will not only offer college transfer course work, but provide technical skill training and the opportunity for area residents to pursue upper level undergraduate and graduate level courses and programs. The "Celebration of Success” was held in the O’Neill Community Center.

  • Northeast Students Build an Electric Car - In Different Decades

    by jamesc  6/6/2014 2:52:12 PM --  NORFOLK – Students at Northeast Community College have completed a project together. While that may sound like a common everyday occurrence on campus, this project was different in that it was completed by students – seven years apart.
