NORFOLK – The music department at Northeast Community College encourages you to experience music in November as the 2014 concert series continues with a Pops Concert. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Sunday, November 2, at 2 p.m. in the Cox Activities Center Theatre. The Northeast show choir, Singers Express, and the jazz band, the Northeast Jazz Machine, will perform. The Northeast Area Jazz Ensemble will also take the stage.

NORFOLK – Students in several applied technology division programs at Northeast Community College continue to work on public service projects in the Norfolk area. Most recently, they assisted with construction of the latest Norfolk Area Habitat for Humanity house near 2nd Street and Park Avenue. Northeast students have worked on several Habitat homes in the city over the years.

NORFOLK - Agriculture cooperatives hoping to get a jump on summer intern hiring set up booths Thursday in Northeast Community College’s Lifelong Learning Center for an Ag Career Fair. They spoke with interested Northeast students who ordinarily might not start to look for internships until spring. Dr. Burton Pflueger, Northeast agriculture instructor, who planned the event, said introducing students to potential employers this early in the year benefits everyone.

NORFOLK - The Northeast Community College speech team captured 12 trophies at its most recent tournament. The Hawks competed in the 2014 Pioneer Trails Tournament, hosted by Casper College in Casper, WY, this past weekend.

NORFOLK – Five members of the Northeast Community College auto body program and their instructor traveled to the United Kingdom - the second group from the College to travel there in the past year. Instructor Dave Beaudette and his students flew from Omaha to Manchester, England, in late October for a ten visit to nearby North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe, England.

NORFOLK – Two members of the Northeast Community College Adult Education team have received a first of its kind certification that signifies membership in an elite group of professional managers. Nancy Schultz, director of adult education, and Emily Duncan, adult education coordinator, have both successfully completed an intensive training program and are each as a Certified Manager in Program Improvement (CMPI).

NORFOLK – Even though the more immediate focus may be off the Pilger disaster, the effort to rebuild the Stanton County village will last for quite some time. Most of the community took a direct hit from a tornado June 16 that forever changed the lives of Northeast Community College’s service area residents. Much of the rubble has been hauled away, but for many of those who have decided to stay, they have nowhere to keep their remaining possessions. That’s where a Norfolk church has joined forces with Northeast Community College.

This year’s event will be held Friday, November 21, from 8 a.m. – 5p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s campus in Norfolk. Advance registration is now open with a cost of $38, which includes lunch.

LINCOLN – Two Northeast Community College students have earned scholarships from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association (NBA).
Sophomores Cole Hein, David City, and Dylan Strohl-Yeomans, Taylor, have each been awarded $500 scholarships. The NBA awards a $1,000 scholarship to each of its member schools to be used by students who are studying for careers in the radio/television industry. Northeast became a member of the association in 2013.
