  • Northeast Expands Offerings in its IT Program

    by jamesc  7/25/2014 10:47:59 AM --  NORFOLK – A one million dollar investment in the renovation of the Kenneth J. Echtenkamp building on the Norfolk campus of Northeast Community College isn’t the only new addition to the program that is housed there. The College’s information technology (IT) program has been redesigned with more concentrations and a unique “build your own” degree. “This is such an exciting time for all of us. Along with the renovated building, classroom configuration, and new equipment, the most important aspect is the students,” said Gigi Simonsen, information technology instructor. “We feel with the dedicated staff, new learning environment and high-quality instruction, our students will be more competitive in today’s job market.”

  • Northeast Graduate Earns Emmy Award

    by jamesc  6/17/2014 11:45:15 AM --  SILVER SPRING, MD – A Northeast Community College graduate has earned a regional Emmy Award for his work with The United States (U.S.) Air Force Band. Master Sgt. Loren J. Zimmer is an audio engineer with The U.S. Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Originally from Eagle, NE, he began his Air Force career in 1998. Sergeant Zimmer attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk, where he earned his associate degree in audio recording technology in the same year.

  • Northeast Celebrates Success of O'Neill Extended Campus Campaign

    by jamesc  6/10/2014 9:07:52 PM --  O’NEILL – Northeast Community College board members, administration, local dignitaries and others on Tuesday celebrated reaching the goal of a capital campaign to construct a new extended campus here that will not only offer college transfer course work, but provide technical skill training and the opportunity for area residents to pursue upper level undergraduate and graduate level courses and programs. The "Celebration of Success” was held in the O’Neill Community Center.

  • Northeast Hosts Nurse Pinning Ceremony

In addition to the Pinning Ceremony, two associate degree nursing and two practical nursing student were presented the Essence of Nursing Award for their consistent academic effort, caring actions, positive motivation toward classroom learning and clinical experience, and professional behaviors.

  • 38th Adult Education Recognition Night Held at Northeast

The students were honored for completing the requirements to receive a Nebraska high school diploma through the GED ® (General Educational Development) tests administered by Northeast’s Adult Education Program.

Unfortunately, it took less than a second for gravity to destroy the project it took her hours to construct.

  • Northeast Reaches Out to Latino Community in So. Sioux City

That task can be even greater for a family that has never had a single member attend college. Northeast Community College and South Sioux City Public Schools have created a partnership to make the job of college preparation less daunting, especially for Latino families. “We have a lot of first generation students with parents who are really uncertain how this college process works. They’re not sure how to help their children with college. So we came together to look at ways to provide them information so they can see that it may not be as intimidating as they think,” said Maria Gonzalez, advisor/recruiter for Northeast Community College in South Sioux City.

  • Candidates Announced for 41st Commencement at Northeast

    by jamesc  5/9/2014 1:42:41 PM --  NORFOLK – The 41st Commencement of Northeast Community College will take place on Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. in the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus. As of Wednesday, May 7, some 881 students, including those earning double majors, and 207 who completed their studies this past December, were to be listed in the commencement program. Dr. Rod Risley, executive director of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the largest honor society in higher education, will give the commencement address.

  • Northeast Student Designs Commencement Ticket

    by jamesc  5/9/2014 1:02:24 PM --  NORFOLK – It is a requirement to get into any major event. Without one, there is simply no admission. That includes the 2014 commencement ceremony at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. As it is every year, the ceremony is popular with family and friends, so tickets are required for admittance into the ceremony. This is the second year the ticket has been designed by a student in Phil Schimonitz’s sophomore graphic design classes. The Graduation Workgroup, which consists of seven faculty and staff members from Northeast Community College, vote to select the top two ticket designs. College administrators choose from the two tickets to determine the winning entry.

  • Media Arts & Mass Media Programs Coming to Northeast This Fall

    by jamesc  5/2/2014 1:00:16 PM --  NORFOLK – Audio Recording and Broadcasting have been long standing programs on the Norfolk campus of Northeast Community College for over 30-years. They operated in separate buildings with their own focus for most of that time until they were merged in the 2007-08 academic year. However, additional changes will be coming starting this fall to address industry demands. “The new Media Arts Associate of Applied Science degree will have three concentrations. In addition to Audio Recording Technology and Broadcasting-Radio/Television, Northeast will begin a new concentration called Digital Cinema Media,” said John Blaylock, vice president of educational services. “This new concentration is designed to help students gain expertise in production-level videography so they can develop their own videos, be employed by a video production or broadcasting company or work in the public relations field and market video production for a business.”
