Northeast PBL Students Earn National Honors

by jamesc  7/11/2014 9:31:25 AM --  NASHVILLE, TN – Several members of Northeast Community College’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Chapter earned honors recently at the organization’s National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN. Overall, Nebraska PBL produced 52 Top Ten finishes, the most ever. The finish also placed the Nebraskans in second place among all of the states attending.


Approximately 80 Nebraska PBL members, advisers, and guests attended the annual conference held June 24-27. Nearly 1,700 of America’s best and brightest college students traveled to the historic city of Nashville to make some history of their own as they showcased their talents as future business leaders and vied for the opportunity to win over $79,000 in cash awards.

Northeast students who received awards during the National Leadership Conference included Beth Ebmeier, of Laurel, and Jenna McCleary of Battle Creek, who placed second nationally in Strategic Analysis and Decision Making; Michael Wallace, of Norfolk, who placed fifth nationally in Economic Analysis and Decision Making; and Gary Brunckhorst, of Pierce, and Michelle Haselhorst, of Wausa,  who placed tenth nationally in Strategic Analysis and Decision Making.

Haselhorst serves as vice president of finance for Nebraska PBL while Ebmeier is assistant vice president of public relations.                                                                                        

Angie Shaffer, business instructor, serves as the advisor for the Northeast PBL Club.

Phi Beta Lambda focuses on developing leadership, communication, and team skills in its members as well as giving members an opportunity to meet and network with other PBL members at the local, state, or national levels. PBL places an emphasis on helping students transition to the business world. There are approximately 11,000 PBL members on college campuses across the country.
