Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will host a number of law enforcement and public service agencies on Tuesday, July 22, for a Public Safety Day. The event will run from 6-9 p.m. at the College Center, 1001 College Way.

"The goal is for families to enjoy an evening with local safety groups,” said Lori McClaren, associate dean for Northeast at the College Center. "We have lined up a host of agency professionals who will be on hand to present live demonstrations and safety information in an educational, but entertaining way." She said children's activities will be held and free food will be provided. All activities will be held outdoors at the College Center.

Activities during the Public Safety Day include: bike safety, bicycle helmet fitting, and public safety information by the South Sioux City Police Department; police dog demonstrations by the Dakota County Sheriff's Department; rollover demonstrations by the Nebraska State Patrol; boater and hunter safety by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission; safety tips from the Dakota County Public Health Department; community preparedness, outreach and awareness activities by the local CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), and more.

A number of the agencies will also have vehicles on display including the South Sioux City Police Department SWAT; fire departments from South Sioux City and Dakota County; the American Red Cross; and the local Salvation Army. Mercy Air Care will also have its helicopter on display.

McClaren said, "This promises to be great time for all and we hope people take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn about public safety." The event is free and open to the public.
