HIGHLAND, KS – The Northeast Community College men’s basketball team went 2-0 during a weekend road trip to Kansas. The Hawks won both their contests at the Highland Community College Classic in Highland, KS.
On Saturday, Northeast defeated Kansas City, KS, Community College, 65-54.
Khapri Alston recorded his third straight double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Joining him in double figures were Lyle Hexom with 16 points, Buay Tauch with 13, and Chima Moneke added ten. Anthony Woods had nine assists. As a team, the Hawks shot ten, three-point shots.
Friday, six Northeast players scored in double figures as the Hawks defeated the host team, Highland, 84-75. Tied at 40 at halftime, Northeast could not shake off the Scotties until Jabbar Washington hit a layup with under four minutes to go to give the Hawks a 72-71 lead, They never trailed from that point on..
Alston led Northeast with 17 points and ten rebounds. Washington had 16 points, Moneke finished with 14, Hexom and Tauch each added 12, and Sheed Fairley had eleven. As a team, Northeast out rebounded Highland, 49-32.
The Hawks are now 13-5 on the season.
Northeast will begin conference play this weekend as it takes on Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA, on Saturday, January 11. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
