Northeast Men's Basketball Team Picks Up 15 Point Road Win

by jamesc  12/19/2013 7:11:32 AM --  FT. DODGE, IA – Six Northeast Community College players scored in double figures in a win on the road Wednesday night against Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge, IA. The Hawks beat the Tritons, 89-74.


Despite being down by as many as 10 points in the first half, the Hawks cut the lead to three heading into intermission, 44-41. Stingy defense and effective shooting led to a 48 point second half, leading to victory.

The Hawks were led by Khapri Alston. He recorded his third straight double-double, with 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Alston was 11 for 14 from the field in shooting. Other Hawks in double figures were Lyle Hexom with 15, Sheed Fairly with 13, Jabbar Washington with 12, and Chima Moneke and Buay Tuach both added 10 points. Hexom also recorded 10 rebounds and blocked six shots.

With the win, Northeast moves to 11-5 on the year.

The Hawks will have 10 days off before they meet again on December 30th for their first practice of the second semester. The team will be in action on January 3 as it takes on Kansas City, KS Community College as part of the Highland Community College Classic in Highland, KS. Tip-off is to be announced.
