NORFOLK – Despite being down 8-0 at the start of its game with Southeast Community College, the Northeast Community College women’s basketball team went on to defeat the Storm here rather easily 82-53. The 25th ranked Hawks, who improve to 13-0, had a 44-18 halftime lead in Tuesday’s contest.
“We played OK at times tonight, but we had moments where we were not very good,” said Northeast Coach Matt Svehla. “It is disappointing to see us with 23 turnovers. Despite being 13-0 we have plenty of things to work on. I was pleased with how we shot three pointers and it was good to see Lexi Murphy finding her stroke.”
Murphy led all scorers with 18 points, 12 of which were from the three-point line. Three Northeast players - Alison Klostergaard, Ena Viso and Debinique Knowles - each finished with 15 points. Emily Gamble had eight points, Megan Trinder had six, Amelia Allington finished with three and Yasmin Miller had two points.
Northeast will host the Concordia University JV Friday evening at 6 at the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus. This will be the final game for Northeast this semester.
