Northeast Community College Women’s Basketball Team Improves to 10-0

by jamesc  11/27/2013 8:00:02 AM --  NORFOLK – After trailing early 4-2, the Northeast Community College women’s basketball team went on a 20-0 run in its latest win, a 74-56 victory over Northeastern Junior College (NJC) of Sterling, CO, here Tuesday night. The Hawks improve to 10-0 on the season.

“We went on a really nice run during the first ten minutes of the game,” Northeast coach Matt Svehla said. “That run didn’t seal the game, but it sure helped us establish control of things.” NJC hit three, three point shots toward the end of the first half to stay within 12 points (39-27) at halftime.

Svehla said he was pleased that his players controlled Northeastern early in the game and out rebounded the Plainswomen 45-37. “We had some careless possessions on offense and poor free throw shooting in the second half. We are 10-0, but we still have areas that need to improve.”

Alison Klostergaard led Northeast with 15 points and 12 rebounds followed by Megan Trinder with 13 points, six assists and four rebounds. Elsewhere for the Hawks, Ena Viso scored 10 points, Emily Gamble and Debinique Knowles had 8 points each, Lexi Murphy and Jamea Coleman scored 7 points each, Yasmin Miller had 4, and Annie Szczepaniak had 2 points.

Brooke Blair led NJC with 18 points.

The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team will be in action next on Wednesday, December 4 at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, KS. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
