NORFOLK – The season is rapidly approaching for the Northeast Community College men’s basketball team. Official team practice began at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
This weekend, the Hawks will test their skills against other teams in Cedar Falls, IA. Northeast will be one of 24 teams participating in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference 2013 Juco Jam on Saturday. Teams from Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin will play in the event at the University of Northern Iowa’s Wellness and Recreation Center.
Each of the 24 teams will play three games on Saturday. Northeast will take on Carl Sandburg College of Illinois at 1 p.m.; Kishwaukee Community College of Illinois at 3 p.m.; and John Wood Community College of Illinois at 5 p.m.
The Northeast Community College men’s basketball team will take part in three pre-season scrimmages later this month. The team will face Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, IA, on Thursday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m., while it will play Morningside College in Sioux City on Thursday, October 24 at 6 p.m. The Hawks will scrimmage Dordt College at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk on Monday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Northeast will open the regular men’s basketball season at the two-day McCook Classic beginning Friday, November 1 as the team will take on North Platte Community College at 6 p.m. Northeast’s first men’s basketball home contest will be Wednesday, November 6 against North Dakota State College of Science in the Cox Activities Center at 8 p.m.
