by jamesc  8/26/2014 6:46:08 PM --  NORFOLK – Six freshmen and two sophomores will join six returning players to make up this year’s golf team at Northeast Community College.

Coach Brad Bosh is excited for the season. “We are going to be very competitive this year. I have four returning starters that have a lot of experience, including Alex Dredge and Justin Mlnarik, but I also have six new freshmen who want to play!”

Dredge, of Valentine, and Mlnarik, of Linwood, earned Iowa Community College Athletic Association Conference 2nd Team All-Conference honors in 2013-14. Other sophomores returning this season are Michael Bergquist, Cheyenne, WY; Corby Forbes, Brunswick; Trever Miller, Lexington; and Conner Watson, Omaha. Incoming sophomores include Justin Bruntz, Ft. Collins, CO, and Dustin Vinson, Grand Island.

Freshmen players include Lucas Bradfield, Beemer; Michael Brockhaus, Humphrey; Gage Garnas, Julesburg, CO; Stephen GrandPre, Cheyenne, WY; Preston Peters, Bancroft; and Trevor Reiss, Ogallala.

“Practice is going to be much more competitive and the new players coming in are going to push our sophomores,” Bosh said. “We are going to be working hard this fall to try and get prepared for next spring, which is our main season.  Our first invite will be our first test of the season.”

Northeast opens the season on Thursday at the Doane College Men’s Fall Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Crete.
