NORFOLK – Five returning players will be joined by six newcomers to make up this season’s Northeast Community College volleyball team. Last year’s squad was the first volleyball team at the College since Northeast reinstated the sport after a decade long absence.
The Hawks opened last season winning its first six matches. The team also qualified for post season play, but fell in the opening round of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Region XI-B bracket Tournament. Northeast finished the year15-21.
Amanda Schultze, head coach, said three of the five returning players were starters last season with the two others having had significant playing time. She feels they will be competitive in conference play this year.
“The five returning players will all be great leaders for the six incoming freshmen. The freshmen are eager to earn a spot on the court and will be good competition for our sophomores. We plan on being very strong defensively this year as we don’t have as much height. I feel we will be strong with our ball control as well. We are very excited to get the season rolling and on its way.”
Returning sophomores include: Maggie Earney, Whitney, Grace Ecklund, Overton, Sarah Maxon, Wayne, Haley Roelle, Creston, and Brittany Sullivan, Allen.
