The Safest Place in Siouxland

by jamesc  7/25/2014 10:42:55 AM --  A bicycle safety clinic, sponsored by the South Sioux City Optimist Club, was among the many activities during a Public Safety Day recently at Northeast Community College’s extended campus in South Sioux City. Approximately 200 people also had the opportunity to view equipment and visit with representatives from a number of Siouxland area agencies during the event.


Agencies taking part included American Red Cross, CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), Dakota County Emergency Management, Dakota City Fire Department, Dakota County Sheriff's Department, Mercy Air Care, Mercy Medical Center, Nebraska Game and Parks, NEMA (Nebraska Emergency Management Agency), Nebraska State Patrol, Salvation Army, South Sioux City Police Department, South Sioux City Fire Department, and STARCOMM (Siouxland Tri-State Area Radio Communications). In addition, Doug Dekker, director of emergency medical services and the paramedic program at Northeast Community College, attended the event with the college’s teaching ambulance while Northeast Community College and Wayne State College personnel were on hand with other booths and demonstrations.
