Hawks Golf Team Competes at Region XI Tournament

by jamesc  5/5/2014 8:32:42 AM --  PANORA, IA – The Northeast Community College golf team finished sixth at the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Region XI golf championship over the weekend. The Hawks shot a 651 in the two-day tournament at the Lake Panorama Golf Club in Panora, IA. Iowa Central Community College (ICCCC) took team honors with a 634. Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) was second with 641.


Individually, Nathan Chilcott of Kirkwood Community College was medalist after shooting a two-day total of 149. Ben Hogan and Matt Sturgill of ICCCC followed, with each shooting 152.

Two members of the Hawks golf team finished in the top ten and were involved in a three-man sudden death playoff with the individual golfer heading to nationals. Unfortunately, they came up short. Justin Mlnarik, of Linwood, and Alex Dredge, of Valentine, tied for eighth with Austin Sweeney of ILCC with 161.

Elsewhere for Northeast, Conner Watson, of Omaha, shot 164; Michael Bergquist, of Cheyenne, WY, had a 169 and Mike Smith, of Battle Creek, finished with a 169.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Mlnarik and Dredge were named to the ICCAC All Conference- Second Team.
