by jamesc  5/2/2014 10:58:55 AM --  Northeast Community College Early Childhood Education student Dominique Augustin, of Shelby, assists kindergartner Darrell Weed, of Battle Creek, with his tree cookie necklace at an Arbor Day celebration at the College’s Chuck M. Pohlman Agriculture Complex. Pieces from the necklace came from a trimmed branch from an elm tree on the Northeast campus.

Approximately 95 kindergartners from Keystone Christian Academy, St. Paul’s Lutheran, and Washington elementary schools in Norfolk, and Battle Creek Elementary School, took part in the 8th annual event. The event was hosted by the Northeast Community College Arboretum along with the college’s Early Childhood Education Club, Horticulture Club and Grounds Department staff. Others involved included the Lower Elkhorn NRD, and the Nebraska Forest Service. (Courtesy Photo).
