NORFOLK – A special ceremony was held recently in Norfolk for the students enrolled in the Northeast Community College veterinary technology program. Members of the Class of 2014 received the veterinary technician’s pin. Members of the Class of 2015 were awarded a monogrammed white coat to mark their formal acceptance.
Dr. Mike Cooper, DVM and program director, opened the ceremony followed by comments from
Corinne Morris, dean of agriculture, math and science at Northeast. Veterinary Technician Instructor Josh Schlote, LVT, administered the Vet Tech’s oath to the Classes of 2014 and 2015. Dr. Amanda Hafer, veterinary technician instructor, spoke on how to keep a good sense of humor during her talk, “Laughter is the BEST Medicine.”
Cooper said the importance of veterinary technicians became quite obvious at the recent winter meeting of the Nebraska Veterinary Association in Lincoln. “This past year, the Nebraska Veterinary Association opened its membership for the first time to licensed veterinary technicians. The technicians will have a representative on the board and plans are in place to expand technician education at the winter and summer meetings. It just shows how important (veterinary) technicians have become.”
