Northeast Women Pick Up Win Over Marshalltown

by jamesc  1/20/2014 8:01:44 AM --  NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team improved to 16-2 over the weekend with a win here over Marshalltown Community College, 86-47.

Hawks Coach Matt Svehla said his team played well from the start. “We got out of the gates very well and really had the transition game going.  Our defensive effort had been just average during the past couple of games, so we really wanted to defend better tonight and we did.”

Svehla said Northeast was able to shut down one of Marshalltown’s strengths. “They are a good 3 point shooting team and we really contested them from there. They did not have many good looks.  Offensively, our ball movement was really good, especially in transition.  We took care of business and had a chance to play our entire bench.”

Emily Gamble led Northeast with 15 points while Alison Klostergaard finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Elsewhere for the Hawks, Megan Trinder had 13 points, Ena Viso contributed 12, Yasmin Miller had nine points and eight rebounds, Lexi Murphy had eight points, Debinique Knowles finished with six points, seven rounds, and five assists, Annie Szczepaniak, five, Jamea Coleman four, and Amelia Allington two.

The Midland University JV will host Northeast on Tuesday, January 21, in Fremont. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
