  • Hawks Finish 12th at Hastings Invitational

    by jamesc  4/22/2014 9:23:43 AM --  GOTHENBURG – The Northeast Community College men’s golf team finished 12th at the Hastings College Wild West Invitational over the weekend at the Wild Horse Golf Course here. Hastings College was champion with a 306 followed by the University of Nebraska-Kearney with a 310. The Hawks shot 330. The Northeast B team was 15th with a 371.

  • Golden Leaf Awards Presented to Northeast Students

    by jamesc  4/17/2014 5:25:31 PM --  NORFOLK - Northeast Community College broadcasting, journalism and mass media students were honored for their work at the annual Nebraska Collegiate Media Association (NCMA) Conference, Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Hastings College in Hastings. NCMA sponsors the Golden Leaf Awards every spring for excellence in print, digital, radio and TV media. Northeast students took top honors in several categories including Best TV Newscast for the Hawk-TV staff and Best Promotional Content, won by the staff of the Northeast college online newspaper, The Viewpoint.

  • Northeast Livestock Judging Team Earns Honors

    by jamesc  4/17/2014 5:23:21 PM --  MARYVILLE, MO – Northeast Community College students finished in fourth place in sweepstakes for two-year colleges at the 2014 North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Judging Conference held at Northwest Missouri State University here. Northeast was one of 20 community colleges and 19 university teams to compete in the April 10-12 conference.

Northeast Community College, South Sioux City Community Schools and the Northeast Community College Multicultural Club will sponsor a World of Fun carnival on Saturday, April 26, from 1-4 p.m. in the parking lot of the College Center, 1001 College Way, in South Sioux City.

He was one of three players to tie for fifth with a two-day total of 153.

  • Northeast Community College to Close April 18-21 for Spring Break

But the sport isn't the only focus of the point guard on the Northeast Community College men’s basketball team. “Coming here (Northeast) was the best decision I ever made,” Washington said. “Being a student and an athlete is not easy, but my coaches have helped me develop into the young man that I am today. I came here as a boy, but I will leave here as a young man.”

  • ESU 8 Awarded Grant to Update Links to Northeast Community College

    by jamesc  4/11/2014 11:26:00 AM --  NELIGH – Educational Service Units (ESUs) in Northeast and North Central Nebraska have been awarded a grant to further their distance learning capabilities. USDA Rural Development Nebraska State Director Maxine Moul visited Neligh recently to present officials of ESU #8 a certificate recognizing the $287,442 grant to upgrade its distance learning equipment between 30 schools and Northeast Community College. It is part of $1.2 million in funding awarded to several ESUs in the state.

  • Northeast Signs Women's Basketball Recruit from South Dakota

    by jamesc  4/11/2014 11:20:11 AM --  NORFOLK – Northeast Community College has signed a women’s basketball recruit out of South Dakota. Sydney Koel is a 6’2” forward/post from Sioux Falls. Hawks Coach Matt Svehla said Koel is a great player for the Northeast program. “Sydney is a mobile post player who can run the floor, post up, and also shoot the occasional three. Having a post with that kind of size and versatility is such a luxury.”

Mary Colfack, manager of the Norfolk Holiday Inn Express, also met with the guests during Thursday’s gathering.
