  • Broadcasting Students Receive Scholarships

    by jamesc  8/22/2014 2:05:35 PM --  LINCOLN – Two Northeast Community College students have earned scholarships from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association (NBA). Sophomores Cole Hein, David City, and Dylan Strohl-Yeomans, Taylor, have each been awarded $500 scholarships. The NBA awards a $1,000 scholarship to each of its member schools to be used by students who are studying for careers in the radio/television industry. Northeast became a member of the association in 2013.

Paul Bailey, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) instructor, has been named to HVACclasses.org’s “Ten Top Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Instructors” in the United States.

During a lunch break at its monthly meeting Thursday in Norfolk, John W. Davies, board chairperson, declared August 14, 2014, as “Gene Willers Day.” Davies and Willers are more than just colleagues on the board - they are friends and neighbors who live in and near the village of Pilger.

  • Home Builders Contribute $30,000 to Northeast Community College

As a long-standing backer of the program, NAHB has committed $30,000 to equipping the building construction program’s lab area in the College’s new Applied Technology building, proving its continued support of all the programs to be housed in the new facility.

  • Hawks Volleyball Team Prepares for Upcoming Season

Last year’s squad was the first volleyball team at the College since Northeast reinstated the sport after a decade long absence.

  • Northeast to Hold Part-Time Job Fair August 26

The annual Part-Time Job Fair will be held Tuesday, August 26, from 3-5 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Northeast campus in Norfolk. Employer set-up will be from 2-3 p.m.

  • International Flags on Display at Northeast Community College

Ted Myers, international student advisor, said the flags represent the countries of the approximately 50 students who will be attending Northeast this fall.

  • Northeast to Offer New Diversified Manufacturing Certificate

    by jamesc  8/1/2014 12:26:39 PM --  NORFOLK - Manufacturing accounted for 11.8 percent of the gross domestic product in Nebraska in 2011. It not only contributed $11.2 billion to the state’s economy, but it employed 9.8 percent of the workforce. However, according to research by the consulting firm Deloitte, 600,000 manufacturing jobs remain unfilled in the United States because employers cannot find skilled workers. The skills gap and inability to fill positions with qualified candidates witnessed at the national level has not evaded Nebraska - as reports from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate that 2.3 percent of jobs in the Midwest, including Nebraska, remain unfilled. These are statistics that are hard to ignore. In an effort to assist the manufacturing sector in providing qualified and productive workers, Northeast Community College has created a new option to allow students to acquire highly valued skills in an innovative, hands-on learning environment.

  • Northeast to Implement Tobacco Free Policy August 1

  • Northeast Expands Offerings in its IT Program

Echtenkamp building on the Norfolk campus of Northeast Community College isn’t the only new addition to the program that is housed there. The College’s information technology (IT) program has been redesigned with more concentrations and a unique “build your own” degree. “This is such an exciting time for all of us. Along with the renovated building, classroom configuration, and new equipment, the most important aspect is the students,” said Gigi Simonsen, information technology instructor. “We feel with the dedicated staff, new learning environment and high-quality instruction, our students will be more competitive in today’s job market.”
