The Physical Therapist Assistant program at Northeast will prepare you for a career where you will work under the direction of a physical therapist in providing patient treatment. As a public college, you’ll find our tuition is much more affordable than most private colleges, and you’ll receive the finest training in the region including over 600 hours of clinical labs instruction that will prepare you to work in a variety of settings.
The Physical Therapist Assistant program is an integrated two-year program. Students enroll through open admission as a Pre-PTA. The first semester of coursework consists of general education and preparatory courses. You must complete an application as part of a competitive selection process to be considered for the remainder of the program. See physical therapist assistant admission requirements. Transfer students will be considered.
Program graduates will be eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs. Many clinical sites require background checks on any students completing their clinical experience at their sites. You will be required to submit to a criminal background check before enrolling in the PTA program. The Northeast PTA program was established in 1994 and has had 246 graduates. The program received a 10 year full accreditation status in 2009. For the last 3 years the average graduation rate is 62%.
Northeast PTA program graduates are eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) for PTAs based on the current accreditation status. The State of Nebraska requires graduates to pass this examination prior to practicing as a PTA. The Class of 2012 had a 100% pass rate on the NPTE for first their first attempt. For the last 5 years 100% of Northeast graduates have passed the NPTE.
