GHS Seminar & Hazard Communication Standard Update
In March 2012 OSHA modified the Hazard Communication Standard to adopt the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals better known as GHS. GHS is a logical and comprehensive approach to standardizing the classification and labeling of chemicals which will improve safety and health of workers through more effective communication by: Defining health, physical and environmental hazards of chemicals; Creating classification processes that use available data on chemicals for comparison with the defined hazard criteria; and Communicating hazard information, as well as protective measures on labels and Safety Data Sheets or SDS (formerly MSDS).
Training topics include: Phase-in period and effective completion dates; Format templates for labels and SDS; Employee training requirements (employer responsibilities); Major changes to the HCS; Changes in chemical hazard evaluation and How businesses and workers will be affected by the revised HCS.
