Health Alert - Get the Facts

Message from the President

It is my responsibility to advise you that a 23-year-old international student majoring in computer programming is being treated off-campus for tuberculosis.  He lived in a Northeast student apartment and is scheduled to complete his course of study at Northeast this week.  We are following the recommendations of the Nebraska Department of Health and are in the process of contacting those who may have had prolonged contact with him.  According to the state epidemiologist, an individual must have spent a total of four hours within a 24-hour period to be at risk for contracting tuberculosis germs from this individual.  We are coordinating our containment efforts with the Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department.  While tuberculosis is difficult to contract, any individuals who feel they may be at risk for contracting the infection should contact Dr. Karen Severson who will coordinate the free testing with the Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department.
